Andong Yeonghoru Pavilion is a scenic spot considered one of the three great pavilions of Yeongnam, along with Chokseongnu Pavilion in Jinju and Yeongnamnu in Miryang. It is presumed to have been built before the mid-Goryeo period, and is famous as a place where Gongmin of Goryeo, who fled to Andong to escape the Hong Geon-jeok rebellion, frequently visited to soothe his worries. Afterwards, Gongmin of Goryeo bestowed a signboard with his own handwriting, further increasing its fame.
When you go up the pavilion, a hanja signboard (a replica) by Gongmin of Goryeo hangs on the north side, and a hangul signboard by former President Park Chung Hee hangs on the south side, while 46 signboards containing the history of Yeonghoru Pavilion hang inside. After being lost to a great flood in 1934, it was rebuilt at its current location in 1970, and you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Nakdong River and Yeonghodaegyo Bridge harmonizing together. Right next to it, you can also look around the monument to independence activist Kim Ji-seop and the Memorial Tower.
