Andong Seokbinggo is a stone ice storage built in the 13th year of King Yeongjo of Joseon (1737) to present sweetfish caught in the Nakdong River to the king. Originally located on the banks of the Nakdong River, it was moved to its current location in Andong Folk Village when it was in danger of being submerged due to the construction of Andong Dam in 1975. This place was more than just an ice storage; it was a facility with significant meaning where ancestral rites were held when putting in and taking out ice.
When you enter the inside, you can see a unique structure with a sloped floor and a drainage channel, and four rainbow-shaped arches supporting the ceiling. In particular, the ventilation hole in the ceiling allows a glimpse into the scientific wisdom of our ancestors, letting hot air out and preserving cold air. Experience the wisdom of the past in this place where a cool breeze can be felt even in the middle of summer.
