Located in Geumseong-dong, Gongju, the Tomb of King Muryeong and Royal Tombs is a UNESCO World Heritage site where the tombs of the kings of the Woongjin Baekje period are gathered. Discovered by chance, the Tomb of King Muryeong was excavated perfectly preserved in its state from 1,500 years ago, and with the excavation of an epitaph plaque identifying the deceased, it holds extremely high historical value as the only royal tomb in Korea whose occupant is known. A total of 7 ancient tombs are located here, including the Tomb of King Muryeong, and the coexistence of Baekje's traditional stone-chamber tombs and China-style brick tombs provides a glimpse into the internationality and openness of Baekje society at the time.
In the exhibition hall at the entrance of the ancient tomb complex, you can vividly observe recreated models of the tomb interiors and the excavation process, and you can feel the history of Baekje in a quiet atmosphere along the path through the green pine forest.
