Familiar as the landscape drawn on the back of the 1,000-won bill, Dosanseowon Confucian Academy is the place where Toegye Yi Hwang, a great scholar of the Joseon period, devoted himself to academic research and training disciples. Dosanseodang, designed by Yi Hwang himself, and the academy buildings erected by his disciples in honor of their teacher's scholarly virtue are in harmony, and it is evaluated as a meaningful space completed by a teacher and his disciples across different eras. The simple yet dignified architectural beauty harmonizes with the surrounding natural scenery, allowing you to feel the spirit of a scholar, and its value has been recognized by being listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Don't miss the signboard written by Han Seok-bong, a master calligrapher of the Joseon era, and Sisadan, where Jeongjo of Joseon held a special state examination.
