Andong Gunja Village was originally called 'Oenae', a 600-year-old settlement of the Yeanpa branch of the Gwangsan Kim clan. When it was at risk of being submerged due to the construction of Andong Dam, it was relocated to its current position, preserving its original form as a historic village. The name originated in the mid-Joseon period when Andong Magistrate Hangang Jeonggu admired the villagers' scholarship and character, saying 'There is no one who is not a gentleman (gunja).
' Having produced many scholars, including Kim Bu-pil of Hujodang House, a top disciple of Lee Hwang, this place offers visitors a peaceful rest with its harmonious blend of tranquil old houses and beautiful natural scenery. It is also known as a filming location for the movie 'The Face Reader' and the drama 'Revenant', and visitors can catch a glimpse of the life of Joseon-era noble families through a hanok stay experience in some of the old houses. Hujodang House, which hangs a signboard written by Lee Hwang, and Takcheongjeong Pavilion, where you can see the calligraphy of the master calligrapher Han Seok-bong, are considered the main attractions of the village.
