Odongdo Island, located in the waters off Yeosu, is an island named for its resemblance to a paulownia leaf when seen from afar. It was once thickly covered with paulownia trees, but is now famous for having the largest colony of camellia trees in the country. From winter to spring, the camellia flowers dye the entire island red, creating a spectacular sight.
It was connected to the mainland when a breakwater was built in 1935, and this road was selected as one of the '100 Beautiful Roads in Korea'. Inside the island, following the walking trails that form tunnels of camellia trees, you can find strange rocks and bizarre cliffs such as Dragon Cave and Elephant Rock, as well as the Odongdo Lighthouse. The musical fountain is also an attraction to enjoy.
As the starting and ending point of Hallyeohaesang National Park, it is a great place to enjoy a leisurely walk and beautiful nature.
