Just like its name, which is a compound of 'Aqua' and 'Planet', this place combines the magnificence of the ocean with advanced technology to let visitors experience a diverse marine ecosystem as if exploring the universe. Although it once experienced animal welfare controversies related to its former mascot, the beluga, as an ex-situ conservation institution designated by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (Haeyangsusanbu), it continues its steady efforts for marine life conservation, such as successfully breeding green sea turtles artificially.
