Located on the coast where Dongmyeonghang Port and Sokcho Lighthouse Observatory meet, Yeonggeumjeong Pavilion was named because the waves crashing against the rocks sounded like a mysterious geomungo (a traditional Korean stringed instrument). Originally, the name referred to the entire rock mountain, but after it was damaged during the Japanese colonial period for the development of Sokcho Port, two pavilions—one on the stone mountain and one on the sea—are now called Yeonggeumjeong. The offshore pavilion, in particular, offers a special experience of seemingly walking on the sea and is an optimal place to enjoy the refreshing scenery of the East Sea and beautiful sunrises.
At night, it is illuminated, making it a popular night tourism attraction due to its beautiful night view.
