The National Research Institute of Maritime Cultural Heritage Mokpo Marine Relics Exhibition Hall is Korea's only museum dedicated to underwater archaeology, established following the discovery of the Sinan submarine relics in 1975. Starting as the Mokpo Conservation and Treatment Center in 1981, it officially opened in 1994, and plays an important role in researching, preserving, and exhibiting cultural heritage excavated from the sea. In particular, the Sinan Shipwreck, which vividly shows the history of maritime trade in East Asia in the 14th century, and the vast amount of relics amounting to over 27,000 pieces are the core attractions here.
Through various shipwrecks and relics such as the Wando Ship and the Sibidongpado Ship, you can encounter the history of our ancestors' maritime activities, and in the outdoor exhibition area, you can directly view traditional boats restored to actual size.
