Mokpo Ceramic Livingware Museum is Korea's first museum dedicated to living ceramics, opened in 2006 to commemorate the history of Mokpo, which was the center of Korea's living ceramics. Thanks to high-quality kaolin and abundant firewood, Mokpo has been a strategic location for ceramic production since the Goryeo Dynasty, and is also the place where Korea's first modern living ceramic factory was built in 1942. Here, you can encounter the history of living ceramics through ordinary dishes used in actual daily life, rather than artistic ceramics meant for appreciation.
Along with an experience room for children and a workshop where you can make ceramics yourself, it is interesting to catch a glimpse of the lifestyles of different eras through exhibitions recreating kitchens from the 1920s and 1970s. Located in Gatbawi Culture Town, it is a great place to look around along with the surrounding museums.
