Mokpo Gyeongdong Catholic Church is a representative modern religious building in Mokpo, designated as a National Registered Cultural Heritage in 2019. It was established in 1954 with the support of the Missionary Society of St. Columban in the Republic of Ireland for missionary work in the island regions around Mokpo, and it is considered the oldest Catholic church currently remaining in Mokpo.
It maintains its grand stone exterior and modern architectural features well, holding high historical and religious value. In front of the church stands a statue of Father Gimdaegeon Andeurea, the first priest of Korea, drawing the footsteps of many Catholic pilgrims and travelers.
