Gohado Observatory is a unique five-story building built on the historical site where Admiral Yi Sun-sin stayed for 106 days to reorganize his forces after winning the Battle of Myeongnyang during the Imjin War. To honor the noble spirit of Chungmugong, the exterior is impressively constructed by stacking models of the 13 Panokseon ships he commanded in a grid shape. Inside, there are exhibition spaces showcasing the culture of Mokpo and the achievements of Chungmugong, as well as a dizzying observation area with a partially transparent glass floor.
Upon reaching the top, visitors can enjoy a spectacular view of the open Dadohae, Mokpodaegyo Bridge, and Yudalsan, and the red sunset coloring the West Sea at dusk is considered the best.
