Located in Yangnim-dong, Gwangju, Owen Memorial Hall is a historical building erected to commemorate missionary Clement Owen, who came to Korea and was martyred while carrying out missionary and medical activities, and his grandfather William Owen. Completed in 1914, this building was built with donations from relatives in the United States and residents of Yangnim-dong, and it boasts a very exotic Western architectural beauty for its time as a Renaissance-style gray brick building. During the Japanese colonial period, it served as a distribution center for Western culture and arts, a cradle for cultivating national consciousness, and a representative assembly hall of Honam, making it a center of modern culture where Gwangju's first civic movement organization and concerts were held.
The internal structure is symmetrical around the pulpit, and it features a design where the first floor and the second-floor balcony slope toward the pulpit.
