Located on a hill in Yangnim-dong, Gwangju, Missionary Wilson's House is the oldest Western-style house in Gwangju, built in the 1920s. American missionary and surgeon Robert Manton Wilson (Korean name Wilson) served as the director of Jejungwon (currently Gwangju Christian Hospital) and devoted himself to the treatment and education of Hansen's disease patients. It boasts a unique architectural style harmonizing Dutch gray bricks and Korean granite, and consists of one basement level and two above-ground floors.
Retaining the history of transforming the Yangnim-dong hill, once abandoned due to infectious diseases, into a space for healing and education, this place is designated as Gwangju Monument No. 15 and is also loved as a filming location for weddings and movies thanks to its exotic scenery. Although the interior is not open to the public, you can enjoy time travel while exploring the tranquil exterior and the surrounding modern history and culture village.
