Opened in 1992 as the first of its kind among local governments nationwide, the Gwangju Museum of Art is a historic space that laid the foundation for the creation of the Gwangju Biennale. In particular, the approximately 2,500 artworks donated by Ha Jeong-ung, a Korean-Japanese businessman and honorary director, are called the 'Art of Prayer' and boast a unique collection where you can see the works of domestic and international masters such as Lee Ufan, Chagall, Pablo Picasso, and Andy Warhol. To honor his noble spirit, the former official residence of the South Jeolla Province Governor was reopened as the 'Ha Jeong-ung Museum of Art', and this place is also a historical site formerly known as the 'Local Blue House'.
You can gain artistic inspiration through various special exhibitions including the Gwangju Biennale, and permanent exhibitions of representative local artists such as Heo Baekryeon and Oh Ji-ho, and it is also loved as a resting space where nature and art harmonize, being located within Jung-oe Park where the Gwangju National Museum and others are gathered.
