Standing tall in downtown Gwangju, Jeonil Building 245 was built in 1968 as the tallest building in Gwangju, serving as a regional landmark. During the 5·18 Democratization Movement, its historical value was re-examined when 245 bullet marks from helicopter fire by martial law forces were discovered, providing decisive evidence to reveal the truth of the helicopter shooting. Currently, it is operated as an educational site to remember the painful history of 5·18, as well as a complex cultural space equipped with an observatory, exhibition hall, and cafe.
Visitors can see the bullet marks preserved inside and outside the building and reflect on the precious value of democracy.
