Chungminsa Shrine is a shrine established in 1601 to honor the loyalty of three figures: the hero of the Imjin War, Admiral Yi Sun-sin, as well as Lee Eok-gi and An Hong-guk. It holds deep historical significance as the first state-sponsored shrine dedicated to Yi Sun-sin, built earlier than Hyeonchungsa Shrine in Asan or Chungnyeolsa Shrine in Tongyeong. It was once demolished due to Heungseon Daewongun's decree abolishing seowons (Confucian academies), but was restored in the 1970s and continues to this day.
Situated facing south in a cozy space, the shrine is a two-ikgong building with a hip-and-gable roof, beautifully painted with dancheong, and is a historical place where one can feel the noble spirit of the three generals.
