Gwanggyo Lake Park is a place where the area around Wonchon Lake and Sindae Lake, which were originally created to supply agricultural water, was reborn as the largest urban lake park in Korea along with the development of Gwanggyo new town. The two reservoirs, once loved by citizens as an amusement park with boats and rides, or as a fishing spot, underwent a transformation through an international design competition into a design that emphasizes nature conservation. After completion, it was selected as the best landscape at the Landscape Grand Prize, establishing itself as a national attraction.
In particular, the freiburg observatory, designed in the same form as the observatory in Suwon's sister city of Freiburg, Germany, symbolizes the friendship between the two cities, and the waterside promenade 'urban levees', which consists of multiple levels allowing views of the lake from various heights, is considered the most popular space as it harmonizes with the splendid night view of Gwanggyo new town.
