Suncheon Naganeupseong Fortress is a living folk village that perfectly preserves the appearance of the Joseon period. Within the roughly 1. 4km stone fortress, about 200 thatched-roof houses are clustered together, and actual residents live there, running guesthouses, craft shops, and restaurants, allowing you to feel the charm of a living fortress rather than a staged folk village.
Along with its history of being rebuilt as a stone fortress when General Im Gyeong-eop was appointed as the magistrate, it is recommended to climb the fortress walls to view the village panorama and the surrounding green fields. You can find the most beautiful scenery especially on the hill between the West Gate and the South Gate, and there are historical buildings such as Dongheon and Gaeksa (Guesthouse), as well as folktales related to Admiral Yi Sun-sin. Near the South Gate of the fortress, there is also the 'Deep-rooted Tree Museum' which collects the artifacts of the late Han Chang-gi, who strove to protect Korea's folk culture, offering a diverse experience.
