Nestled at the eastern foot of Jogyesan Mountain, Seonamsa Temple is the head temple of the Taego Order of Korean Buddhism, and is a millennium-old temple founded by either Ado Hwasang of Baekje or Doseon Guksa of Unified Silla. It is passed down that Doseon Guksa named it Seonamsa Temple, meaning 'rock where the immortals descended. ' It reached its golden age when Daegakguksa Uicheon stayed there during the Goryeo Dynasty, and its value was recognized by being designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Seungseongyo Bridge, a treasure encountered when walking up along the valley from the parking lot, is a beautiful arch-shaped bridge, especially famous for its reflection in the valley water. Inside the temple grounds, there are Manseru, Daeungjeon Hall, and the East and West Three-story Stone Pagodas, and the Haeuso (traditional toilet), famous for its pure Hangeul nameplate, is also an attraction. You can deeply experience Korean Buddhist culture in beautiful nature through various programs such as temple stay and traditional tea experiences.
