Nestled at the foot of Geumjeonsan in Suncheon, Jeollanam-do, Geumdunsa Temple is an ancient temple said to have been first founded during the Baekje period. During the Unified Silla period, it rose prominently as a Seon Buddhism temple, and today, the Three-story Stone Pagoda and Stone Buddhist Stele at the Geumdunsa Temple Site in Suncheon, designated as Treasures, testify to the glory of the old temple site. The delicate offering images carved on the body of the Three-story Stone Pagoda and the unique Buddhist stele in the shape of a monument are precious legacies of 9th-century art history.
The temple, which had been completely abandoned, was carefully rebuilt to regain the dignity of a tranquil sanctuary, and it captivates the footsteps of many with its plum blossom scenery as well.
