The Suncheon Deep Rooted Tree Museum was established to honor the spirit of 'Deep Rooted Tree,' a pure Korean horizontal-writing magazine founded in 1976. Carrying on the will of its publisher, the late Han Chang-gi, who devoted his life to promoting the value of our native culture during a time when Western culture was highly welcomed, the museum opened in 2011 after his bereaved family donated over 6,500 artifacts he collected during his lifetime to Suncheon City. In the 'Hanchanggisil,' the core space of the museum, you can catch a glimpse of his life and achievements through a recreation of his office and an exhibition of all the magazine's issues.
Through fascinating artifacts such as Queen Sinjeong's (King Heonjong's mother) Korean letter and the 'Jeongsunwanghugukjangbanchado,' the only state funeral documentary painting recorded in both Korean and classical Chinese, you can feel the preciousness of our forgotten heritage and the breath of our ancestors.
