Incheon Open Port Museum is located in a historic building built in 1899 as the Incheon branch of Japan's Dai-Ichi Bank. It was built with construction materials brought directly from Japan at the time, and later served as the Incheon branch of the Bank of Joseon and the Bank of Korea, decorating a page in modern financial history. Reborn as a museum in 2010, it vividly conveys the appearance of Incheon during the open port period, and the exhibition room utilizing the old bank vault provides a unique attraction.
You can directly experience the history and culture of Incheon from over 100 years ago through artifacts such as the Taegeukgi hoisted on the Korean Empire's first warship, 'Gwangjeho', relics related to the Gyeongin Line, Korea's first railway, and a diorama recreating the street scenery of the open port period. It is also an excellent educational venue to learn the story of the open port area, where the pain of modern history and new culture coexisted.
