Located on Taehwasan Mountain in Gongju, Chungcheongnam-do, Magoksa Temple is a thousand-year-old temple founded by Jajang Yulsa of Silla. Its water and mountain topography form a taegeuk shape, and it is considered one of the Ten Great Auspicious Sites (Sipseungjiji) where one can avoid the ravages of war. Various halls such as Daeungbojeon, Daegwangbojeon Hall, and Yeongsanjeon Hall form the temple complex.
In particular, it is a temple with deep ties to Baekbeom Kim Gu, who left home to live as a monk here, and a juniper tree planted by him remains in front of Daegwangmyeongjeon Hall. It is also famous for its dense pine forest and the scent of plum blossoms, and its value was recognized when it was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, 'Sansa, Buddhist Mountain Monasteries in Korea,' in 2018. Magoksa Temple Solbaram-gil consists of three courses: Baekbeom Meditation Trail, Baekbeom-gil, and Songnim Forest Trail, providing a trekking course where you can experience the nature of Taehwasan Mountain and the story of Kim Gu together.
