Gwangseongbo Fortress, firmly guarding the Ganghwa Strait, is a historic fortress originating from the Ganghwa Oeseong built against the Mongolian invasion during the Goryeo Dynasty. In particular, it was the most intense battlefield during the Sinmiyangyo in 1871, a historical site where the Joseon army led by General Eo Jae-yeon bravely fought despite being overwhelmingly outnumbered in firepower. Currently, within the grounds of Gwangseongbo Fortress are Ssangchungbigak and Shinmisunui Tomb, which commemorate the noble sacrifice of General Eo Jae-yeon and his brother, while the well-maintained pine forest paths and the refreshing scenery of the Ganghwa Strait offer visitors a peaceful walk along with historical learning.
