It is a sacred forest where Kim Al-chi, the progenitor of the royal Gyeongju Kim dynasty of Silla, is said to have been born. Gyerim Forest, meaning 'the forest where the rooster crows', creates a mysterious atmosphere with its dense ancient trees that seem to cover the sky. Inside the forest, the 'Gyeongju Naemurwangneung Royal Tomb', the tomb of the 17th king Naemurwang who laid the foundation of Silla, is situated drawing gentle curves.
Located between Cheomseongdae and Wolseong, it serves as a good resting place to take a walk while touring the core historical sites of Gyeongju. We hope you have a leisurely time feeling the breath of the thousand-year-old capital Silla while walking along the quiet forest path.
