The Former Gongju Eup Office is a Western-style modern building built in 1923 as the Chungnamgeumyungjohabyeonhaphoe Hall. The beautiful, symmetrical exterior built with red bricks well shows the characteristics of government office architecture of that time. It was used as the Gongju Eup Office from 1934, playing a central role in local administration, and after the elevation of Gongju to a city, it was briefly utilized as a city hall.
It was designated as National Registered Cultural Heritage No. 443, having its value recognized, and is now reborn as an exhibition space showing the modern daily life history of Gongju. The interior of the building restores its appearance at the time of construction, presenting a special time travel to visitors through a photo zone that recreates the old office space and an exhibition featuring the appearance of the old downtown of Gongju in the 1930s.
The rare wooden utility pole remaining in front of the building also gives off a strong mood of the past.
