Gongju Banjuk-dong Dangganjiju is a precious relic from the Unified Silla period remaining at the site of Daetongsa Temple, which was founded in the 5th year of Seong of Baekje. It consists of two stone pillars that supported a flagpole (danggan) used to hang flags to display the virtues of the Buddha and bodhisattvas during temple events, and it is named after the current administrative district. The facing inner sides are simple, but the outer sides have a thick band shape prominently carved along the edges, and the characteristics of the Unified Silla period can be seen in the an-sang carving technique of the pedestal.
Although it was partially damaged by bombing during the Han-gukjeonjaeng, it maintains a concise and simple form, and was designated as Treasure No. 150 in 1963. Currently, the area around the flagpole supports has been reorganized into a historical and cultural space, and is loved as a resting place for citizens and a place to feel the traces of history.
