Located on a hill behind Tongyeong Jungang Market, Dongpirang Mural Village is a place where colorful murals unfold along winding alleyways, living up to its name meaning 'eastern slope'. Originally a dilapidated hillside slum facing demolition, a 'Painting Dongpirang' mural contest led by civic groups in 2007 brought together art students and artists from all over the country, transforming the entire village into an art space. Thanks to this, the village avoided demolition and was reborn as a representative tourist attraction in Tongyeong and a successful case of urban regeneration.
As you walk along the winding alleys admiring the colorful murals, a beautiful panoramic view of Tongyeong Gangguan Port unfolds at a glance from the top of the village. Enjoy the special atmosphere where art and ocean views blend together while exploring cute cafes and shops, and tasting Tongyeong's famous honey bread.
