About

This is Sungnyemun Gate, the National Treasure No. 1 of the Republic of Korea and an iconic architectural structure of Seoul. As the main gate of the Seoul City Wall during the Joseon dynasty, it has served as the gateway to the capital, Seoul, for over 600 years.

The grand stone base and the dignified two-story wooden pavilion showcase the essence of early Joseon architectural style. Although it suffered the pain of being destroyed by a fire in 2008, it was reborn in its original form through a restoration that fully utilized traditional techniques, and it now firmly guards the center of Seoul. You can enjoy its majestic figure during the day and its beautiful night view harmonized with lighting at night.
