Seoul Munmyo and Sungkyunkwan is a historic site founded in 1398 during the reign of King Taejo of Joseon, where Munmyo, which enshrines the ancestral tablets of Confucian sages, and Seonggyungwan, the highest national educational institution of the Joseon period, coexist. It features the 'jeonmyohuhak' architectural layout, which places the ritual space in the front and the learning space in the back, and the old pavilions, including the Daeseongjeon Hall and Myeongnyundang Hall designated as Treasures, remain intact. In the front courtyard of Myeongnyundang Hall stands a Natural Monument ginkgo tree over 500 years old, boasting a magnificent golden landscape in autumn, allowing visitors to charmingly feel the traces of study and life of Confucian scholars of the Joseon period.
