The beautiful hill, once called 'Jamdubong Peak' because it resembles the head of a silkworm, holds the most heartbreaking history of the Korean Catholic Church. During the Byeonin Persecution in 1866, numerous Catholics were beheaded and martyred here, which led to it being called 'Jeoldusan', meaning 'beheading mountain'. Today, this place has been reborn as a holy site honoring the souls of the martyrs, housing a church with their remains, a martyrs' memorial, and a museum.
In the serene landscape overlooking the Han River, you can have a reverent time reflecting on the meaning of sublime faith and history.
