Jeondong Catholic Cathedral, considered a symbol of Jeonju Hanok Village, is the first Romanesque-style building in the Honam region and the work of Father Victor Louis Poisnel, who designed Myeongdong Cathedral in Seoul. The Byzantine-style dome, harmonizing red and gray bricks, exudes a classic beauty. In particular, it holds even deeper historical significance as it was built on the site where Yun Jichung and Gwon Sangyeon, the first martyrs of Korea Catholic, were martyred.
Upon entering the cathedral, the colorful stained glass adds a reverent atmosphere and allows you to honor the noble spirit of the martyrs. It is an indispensable pilgrimage site on a trip to Jeonju, as well as an attraction where you can appreciate beautiful architectural aesthetics.
