Located in Dalseong-gun, Daegu, Dodongseowon Confucian Academy is a historic seowon dedicated to Kim Goeng-pil, a Neo-Confucian scholar of the early Joseon period. Starting as Ssanggyeseowon in 1568 and destroyed during the Imjin War, it was rebuilt at its current location in 1604, and received the royal charter name of 'Dodongseowon Confucian Academy' in 1607, meaning 'the way of Confucius came to the east'. Showing the epitome of mid-Joseon seowon architecture, it pursues simplicity without unnecessary decorations, and is laid out in a format with a learning space in the front and a shrine space in the back.
The auditorium, Jungjeongdang Hall, the shrine, and the accompanying Wall are designated as Treasures, and the beautiful earthen wall, which was the first of its kind in the country to be designated as a Treasure, and the over 400-year-old Ginkgo Tree leave a deep impression on visitors.
