The Ethiopian Korean War Memorial Hall is a place that honors the special connection between Chuncheon-si and Ethiopia.
The Ethiopian Korean War Memorial Hall is a place that honors the special connection between Chuncheon-si and Ethiopia. Ethiopia, having suffered the pain of an Italian invasion in 1935, dispatched the 'Kagnew Battalion' to the Korean War by the decision of Emperor Haile Selassie I. The Kagnew Battalion, whose name means 'annihilate at the first encounter', demonstrated great bravery, recording an undefeated myth of 253 wins in 253 battles without giving up a single prisoner.
In 1968, a participation monument was erected at Gongjicheon in Chuncheon, and the memorial hall was built in 2007 at the suggestion of Emperor Selassie, who attended the unveiling ceremony. Visitors can honor the noble sacrifices through the artifacts and battle records of the Ethiopian troops on the 1st floor, and experience the diverse culture of Ethiopia, the birthplace of coffee, on the 2nd floor.
