Seoul's first modern park and the holy ground of the March 1st Movement, Tapgol Park is a place that holds important moments of Korea's modern and contemporary history. In the center of the park, the Joseon dynasty stone pagoda that inherited the style of the Goryeo period, the National Treasure Ten-story Stone Pagoda of Wongaksa Temple Site, boasts its elegant figure. On March 1, 1919, the Korean Declaration of Independence, which rang out from the Octagonal Pavilion (Palgakjeong), became the spark for the nationwide independence movement, and the reliefs and monuments throughout the park vividly convey the shouts of that day.
As a quiet resting place in the city center and a venue for historical education to reflect on the spirit of patriotism, it continues to attract citizens.
