Located at the eastern end of Jeju, Seongsan Ilchulbong is a tuff cone formed by an underwater volcanic eruption in a shallow sea about 5,000 years ago. At the top, a huge crater 600m in diameter and 90m in depth is spread out concavely like a bowl, surrounded by 99 pointed rocks like a crown, creating a magnificent landscape. Since ancient times, the sunrise viewed from here has been so beautiful that it was considered the best among the Ten Scenic Sights of Yeongju, hence the name 'Seongsan Ilchulbong'.
It has high geological value enough to be registered as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage, and the 30-minute trekking to the top provides a special experience that lets you feel the wonders of great nature embraced by Jeju with your whole body.
