Built in 1900 by Go Yo-han, the first bishop of the Anglican Church of Korea, Ganghwa Anglican Church is the oldest existing Hanok church. A palace master carpenter who participated in the reconstruction of Gyeongbokgung led the construction, and it features a bold harmony of East and West, applying a Hanok tile roof in the form of a Buddhist temple on the outside and a Western basilica style on the inside. The space was arranged in the shape of a ship to contain the meaning of an ark that saves the world, and cultural heritage showing the history of the indigenization of Christianity in Korea, such as an altar and a baptismal font made of granite, is well preserved inside.
