It is commonly known as a '99-kan house', the ultimate symbol of a noble family during the Joseon dynasty, but it was actually expanded over generations and currently has a grand scale of 102 kan in total. It was first built by Lee Nae-beon, an 11th-generation descendant of Prince Hyoryeong, and then expanded over generations to take its current form.
In particular, the pavilion 'Hwallaejeong' built over the pond is considered the highlight of Seongyojang House, offering beautiful scenery that blends in with the surrounding nature.
