Located at the summit of Sikjangsan, which towers over the eastern part of Daejeon, Sikjangsan Observatory is the best viewpoint to take in the panoramic views of downtown Daejeon and Daecheongho Lake at a glance. Originally a strategic point for storing military provisions during the Baekje era, this place emerged as a new landmark of Daejeon with the construction of 'Sikjangru', a traditional pavilion-style structure, in 2018. Featuring foundation stones engraved with the 12 zodiac animals, Sikjangru becomes the center of a spectacular night view, and at the nearby sunrise observatory, you can enjoy the magnificent sights of sunrise and sunset.
Recently, the 'View Rest Area (Nalmangchae)' equipped with convenient facilities opened on the site of an old communication facility that was opened to the public for the first time in 60 years, providing visitors with an even more pleasant resting space. It is highly popular as a driving course as you can drive close to the summit, and you can comfortably move to the observatory along a decked path.
