Haeundae Dongbaek Island was connected to the mainland through sedimentation over a long period of time, but it is still called Dongbaek Island, evoking its ancient topography. Early on, many poets and scholars, including Choi Chi-won, visited this scenic spot where the sea and the forest harmonized, playing and reciting their inspiration to pass down to future generations. A walking trail has been created around Haeundae Dongbaek Island, constantly attracting citizens.
Traces of the past and present are everywhere, including Choi Chi-won's Haeundae inscription, statue, and monument, the mermaid statue of Princess Hwangok from the legend, and the Nurimaru APEC House. In addition, the panoramic view of Busan seen from Haeundae Dongbaek Island is impressive, taking in the coastline towards Mipo and Dalmaji Hill on the opposite side, Gwangangdaegyo Bridge crossing the sea and sky, and Oryukdo Island, the symbol of Busan's sea, at a glance. True to its name, where camellia flowers used to bloom and fall so abundantly that they could be kicked by horses' hooves, red flowers still form buds and fall whole between winter and spring, adding to the charm.
